A Viking's Wedding

On a crisp Halloween day, under a sky threatening rain and warmed by a roaring fire, Amanda and Connor stood ready to rule. While the kingdom around them bustled with the energy of united families, their moment was frozen in time. It was solitary and unforgettable.

Today, their souls united in battle. Their alliance is stronger than any enemy, and together they rule their world with the virtues of true Vikings: fierce loyalty and undying love.

When you get the call to capture a wedding that is different from anything you’ve ever photographed, it’s an incredible moment of excitement and fear at the same time. While I was elated for this incredibly unique opportunity, I had to ask: how am I going to capture it? You can’t capture this like a normal wedding. You have to capture the moment, the theme, and the overall vision exactly the way they hoped for and combine it with how you envision it as well.

Fortunately, I love a good challenge.

The moments unfolded on their own. The forested venue served as a truly majestic and atmospheric backdrop, the attire was incredibly authentic, the weather worked out, and the dream team of Lpg Film & P.Tography were on the scene.

I was like a kid in a candy shop. With everything available to me in that moment, it was a total sandbox of creativity, an opportunity to capture this in the cinematic way I played back in my head over and again leading up to the wedding day.

As I look back on these images, I am reminded of the moments where I feel most empowered as a photographer: when I step out of the comfort zone and do new and unique things completely on the fly. It’s raw. It’s where I truly get to create images in the most natural of ways, in the moment, instead of following a the typical & expected wedding photography formula.
