Built-in Elegance: The natural wood of the barn and the surrounding greenery mean you can go minimalist or "all-out" with florals and draping.
The "Golden Hour" Light: The way the sun sets behind the hills at Dolan Creek creates a soft, golden glow that is legendary among local photographers. It provides a warm, romantic color palette that requires very little "extra" to look spectacular.
Photographer’s Tip: The long, tree-lined driveway at Dolan Creek is a secret weapon for photos and video. It adds a high-end, cinematic "movie" feel to your wedding photos film, especially at sunset.
Tin Poppy Retreat: If your wedding vision involves wild-crafted luxury and an intimate connection with nature, Tin Poppy Retreat is unlike anything else in the Shuswap. The property is a mix of lush forest trails, wildflower meadows, and sweeping views of the North Okanagan valley. It’s a venue that feels "hidden away," making it the ultimate choice for couples who want an exclusive, private atmosphere for their celebration.
Unique Amenities & Structures The "star" of the show is the namesake Tin Poppy—a 1953 travel trailer encased in a creative screened-in post-and-beam structure. This serves as a one-of-a-kind backdrop for getting-ready photos and intimate shots.
The Lavender Cabin & Violet Cabin: These solar-powered guest cabins offer a boutique glamping experience, allowing your wedding party to stay on-site in style.
The Solar Power Edge: As a 100% solar-powered venue, Tin Poppy is perfect for the eco-conscious couple. It’s a quiet, peaceful environment where the only soundtrack is the wind through the larch trees.
The Meadow Ceremony Site: A natural mini amphitheater-style setting that offers breathtaking views and a sense of total seclusion.

The "Curated" Look: The venue features a curated collection of vintage furniture and unique architectural details that provide endless "nooks" for creative videography and photography.
Natural Decor: From the weathered wood of the cabins to the vibrant wildflowers, the venue offers a built-in color palette that is naturally cinematic.
Photographer’s Tip: The "Blue Hour" at Tin Poppy. Just after the sun dips behind the Larch Hills, it is simply magic. The solar lights and lanterns glow against the deep blue sky, creating a dreamlike, ethereal look for your wedding photos or videos.

The "Clean" Look: The ballroom’s neutral palette allows for everything from modern minimalist decor to extravagant floral installations.
Inclusive Rentals: They provide high-quality linens, chairs, and table settings, which simplifies your planning process significantly.
Natural Backdrop: The waterfront boardwalk provides a "built-in" decor element—the sunset over the Shuswap is the only decoration you really need for your evening portraits.
Photographer’s Tip: The resort’s private pier is a photographer's dream. The reflection of the sun off the lake combined with the mountain silhouette, creates a high-end, cinematic look that feels like it’s straight out of a movie! Chef’s kiss here.
R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum: If you are looking for a venue that feels like a step back in time, R.J. Haney Heritage Village is an absolute treasure. Set on 40 acres of beautiful parkland just east of Salmon Arm, this heritage site offers a unique blend of vintage romance and rustic charm that you simply won't find anywhere else.
The Property & Historical Vibe R.J. Haney is more than just a venue; it’s a living history museum. The property features over 30 heritage buildings, including the iconic 1910 Haney House, an old-fashioned general store, and a classic filling station. For couples who love a "vintage-chic" or "cottage-core" aesthetic, the manicured gardens and winding woodland trails provide a breathtaking backdrop.
Amenities & Charming Ceremony Sites The Village offers several distinct "stages" for your wedding day:
The Mt. Ida Church: This quaint, historic church is the pinnacle of heritage charm. With its white siding and classic steeple, it provides a timeless, intimate setting for traditional ceremonies.
The Outdoor Amphitheatre: Perfect for larger celebrations, this open-air space allows your guests to enjoy the Shuswap air while you exchange vows under the big BC sky.
Marjorie’s Tea Room & The Sprig of Heather: For your reception, the on-site catering and tea room provide a cozy, welcoming atmosphere with a menu that tastes like home-cooked comfort.
The Heritage Garden: A lush, floral-filled space that is perfect for cocktail hours and candid social shots.
Decor & Aesthetic Options R.J. Haney is a dream for photographers because the "decor" is built into the landscape.
Authentic Vintage Details: From the weathered wood of the old barns to the antique farm equipment scattered throughout the site, the textures here are rich and full of character.
Minimalist Ease: Because the village is so visually interesting, you can keep your added decor simple. A few floral arrangements and some string lights are all you need to make the space feel magical.
Seasonal Colors: In the spring, the fruit trees are in full bloom; in the fall, the maples on the property turn a brilliant gold—making it a top-tier choice for autumn weddings.
Photographer’s Tip: The "Heritage Trail" that winds through the woods behind the village is a hidden gem for photos. I love capturing couples through the tall grass and trees; it creates a dreamy, cinematic "fairytale" sequence that always looks stunning both in print and video format.
Copperview Farms: If you are looking for a venue that feels like a private family estate with world-class views, Copperview Farms is a standout choice in the Shuswap. Located just a short drive west of Salmon Arm, in the rolling hills of Tappen, this working farm offers an elevated take on the classic barn wedding, combining wide-open pastoral beauty with refined, thoughtful amenities.
The Property & Panoramic Views The first thing you’ll notice at Copperview is the scale. The property offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the valley and the surrounding Shuswap mountains. It’s a landscape defined by golden hay fields, split-rail fences, and perfectly placed "lone trees" that provide the kind of natural symmetry photographers and videographers dream of.
Modern Amenities & Event Spaces Copperview has been designed with the modern wedding in mind, offering a clean and polished take on farm life:
The Reception Barn: A bright, spacious, and airy barn that serves as a beautiful blank canvas. Unlike darker, older barns, Copperview’s space is wide open, filled with natural light, - which is essential for crisp, high-quality video and photography.
The Ceremonial Knoll: A stunning outdoor site that overlooks the valley. It’s positioned perfectly to catch the afternoon breeze and provide an unobstructed backdrop for your vows.
On-Site Preparation Suite: A beautifully appointed space for the wedding party to get ready, ensuring you are relaxed and on-site long before the guests arrive.
The Fire Pit Lounge: A dedicated outdoor area for evening socializing, allowing your guests to enjoy the starlit Shuswap sky once the dancing starts.
Decor & Aesthetic Options Copperview is the definition of "Modern Rustic."
The "Bright" Aesthetic: Because the barn and structures are well-maintained and painted with light tones, they pair beautifully with any color palette—from vibrant summer wildflowers to muted autumnal tones.
Versatile Layouts: The farm offers plenty of flat, manicured lawn space, making it easy to set up outdoor lawn games, cocktail bars, or even a secondary marquee tent if needed.
Natural "Props": From the vintage farm equipment to the rolling hills, the property provides all the "decor" you need for epic portraits without requiring extra rentals.
Photographer’s Tip: The "Golden Hour" at Copperview Farms is truly special. Because of its elevated position in Tappen, the sun lingers just a little longer over the fields. I love getting the shot of the couple walking through the tall grass as the sun hits the horizon—it creates a warm, cinematic glow that looks absolutely incredible.
Raven & Steel Vintage Venue Farm: If you are looking for a venue that breaks the mold, Raven & Steel is the Shuswap’s answer to modern, industrial elegance. Located in the heart of Salmon Arm, this unique space trades rustic cedar for silver & matte black steel, soaring glass windows, and a "cool-factor" that is unmatched in the region.
The Property & Industrial Vibe Raven & Steel is defined by its bold architecture. The property features a striking black steel structure that pops against the lush green landscape of Salmon Arm. It’s an "Urban-Industrial" oasis—think clean lines, polished concrete, and a sophisticated, moody aesthetic that provides a high-end backdrop for fashion-forward couples.
Amenities & Modern Event Features The venue is designed for those who appreciate the finer details of modern design:
The Glass-Walled Main Space: With floor-to-ceiling open air windows, the interior is flooded with natural light during the day, which is a dream for photos & video. At night, the space transforms into a sleek, glowing lounge.
Indoor/Outdoor Versatility: The large barn-style doors can be rolled out to create a seamless transition between the chic interior and the outdoor patio, perfect for a breezy cocktail hour.
His/Her Preparation Suites: True to the venue’s brand, the getting-ready spaces are stylishly appointed with a modern space for the girls and a rustic space for the boys, ensuring your "morning-of" shots look like a spread in a lifestyle magazine.
The View: A fantastic vantage point awaits the happy couple high above the property with stunning views of the surrounding mountains & Salmon Arm Bay of the Shuswap lake, accessible with venue-provided ATV’s for easy access.
Decor & Aesthetic Options Raven & Steel is a "Modern Rustic Masterpiece."
The Black & White Canvas: The matte black and corrugated metal finishes along with the neutral concrete dance floor, allow for incredibly bold decor choices. Whether you want neon signs and disco balls or dramatic, architectural floral installations, this venue makes decoration pop.
Modern Lighting: The venue features built-in lighting that complements its industrial roots, reducing the need for heavy external lighting setups while providing a moody, romantic atmosphere.
Textural Beauty: The mix of steel, glass, and wood provides a variety of textures that add depth to every photo and video frame.
Photographer’s Tip: The contrast here is everything. I haven’t done video here yet, but I would absolutely love to do "slow-reveal" shots through the large doors of this venue. The way the modern black steel frames the couple against the natural greenery outside creates a "high-fashion" look that is unique to this specific Salmon Arm location.
